Her event planning experience started in 1989 and grew over more than a decade spent in the insurance industry. During that time, Jeannine was invited to work on several exciting projects including acting as a corporate hostess for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, planning an annual event at Atlanta Motor Speedway for IndyCar owners, and acting as corporate liaison for Music Midtown and AidsWalk Atlanta.

Since starting FAVOR Events in 2007, Jeannine's work has been featured in Southern Weddings, Atlanta Occasions, I Do for Georgia Brides, Atlantan Bride, and Bride's Magazines, as well as several wedding blogs and Essence.com.

In November, 2009, Jeannine created The Stylish Planner, a style and image blog for wedding and event professionals. She intended the blog to be more of a personal outlet for her writing, but thanks to social media and networking, The Stylish Planner has been warmly received and now enjoys over 2,000 unique visitors and nearly 14,000 page visits each month. Weekly topics have expanded to include business, beauty, wellness, fashion, and style profiles of successful wedding and event professionals. 2010 presented opportunities for Jeannine to add public speaking to her resume and she now speaks frequently on style and image, business collateral, virtual image, blogging basics and social media. As a result, Jeannine developed a comprehensive one-day workshop called The Style Plan, for which she is currently developing a webinar series to be offered in the spring of 2011.

Jeannine is never more fulfilled than when she is encouraging someone else, whether that means talking with a fellow professional about a serious business issue or helping someone decide which necklace to wear with an outfit. Jeannine has what is likely an unhealthy affection for coffee, stationery and beautiful shoes. She enjoys a good workout, lazy Saturday mornings spent playing board games with her family, and the smell of old leather bound books in a public library.

Jeannine is a new speaker to Eventology Conference and will present on your business image and your marketing collateral and how to make sure the two mesh. Just maybe.

With the right amount of old and new, we are bringing six speakers again this year to round out your wedding business education. I am really excited about the speaker I am going to introduce and the topic she will be presenting at Eventology. I can just never do all the things that I know I am supposed to do when it comes to this topic. And here's to hoping Michelle Loretta will help me with this! So without further ado. . .

Michelle Loretta LOVES to have coffee with wedding professionals. She loves to talk shop and discuss business strategy. So, in 2009 she started a blog: Sage Wedding Pros. This blog would evolve to cover all things business in the wedding and event industry. These days, Sage Wedding Pros is a consultancy dedicated to educating small business owners. The company's mission is to create sustainable business in the wedding and events industries.

Michelle joined the wedding industry when she launched her stationery business in 2004: mmm... paper. She has a background in finance, having armed herself with a BS in Accounting from University of Southern California and having spent her early career working for Deloitte LLP. She spent 5 years in the fashion industry as a sales manager for DDLA, and a visual merchandiser for Coach, Inc. In 2008, Michelle co-founded the wedding industry not-for-profit Get Hitched Give Hope.

Today, Michelle helps small business owners in the wedding industry with their business planning. Her particular strength is in financial analysis. After years of reviewing financial reports, she can look at the numbers and quickly identify strengths and weaknesses within any organization. Hidden in financial info are always opportunities for improvement and growth. She loves being able to help with the "mystery of numbers" and make business owners confident in their business finances.

A few fun facts about Michelle:
- Has lived in four corners of the US: born near Philly, grew up in LA, lived in Seattle, and now resides in Miami.
- Favorite thing to do is go to the movies.
- Has a funny 3-year-old who amuses her with comments like "I'm a SPICY girl. Mommy is a SPICY lady. And, Papi is a SPICY man."
- Is trying to convince her husband to have an "Indian Wedding" renewal of vows.

Michelle will be presenting at the next conference on Accounting for Creatives {Not Creative Accounting!}. We hope to see you in attendance in April!

K Sherrie+Co Planning Atelierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10096838708768056493noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866532257733151112.post-7118882805834263122010-09-09T21:37:00.001-07:002010-09-09T21:38:41.804-07:00SAVE THE DATE!Eventology 2011 will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 11-12, 2011. But as summer rolls around, I slowly, but surely get back into the scheme of things.

This summer, we have some exciting projects coming through the pipeline and one project, I asked all attendees of any Eventology conference to help me out. You guys may remember the email that started like this:

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen!

I am working on a project for Eventology and I would like to solicit the input of the attendees of the conference for both 2009 and 2010. . .

I promised that those who responded would be entered to win a FREE REGISTRATION to Eventology 2011. Now it is time to announce the winner!

I didn't bother with using a random number generator this time around, because I already knew which number I would choose: 23--in honor of my birthday. And my 23rd responder was HEIDI BARTLETT!!!!!

Everyone who entered deserved a win, but I can hardly think of one that works as hard as this dear girl. Heidi is the owner of idieh Design-a custom stationery design company based in Arizona. Everyone ooh'd and ahh'd over the swag that she provided for this year's conference and I have personally had her do some work for me. I could not be more impressed by her work and her work ethic, so I am just over the moon that I can present this to her. So. . .congratulations, Heidi!

As far as Eventology 2011 is concerned, I have so many great ideas swirling around. . .I can't wait to preen and solidify. I must make sure the next conference is as delightful as the previous ones. Stayed tuned to the blog for upcoming details and, who knows. . .maybe there'll be more opportunities to win a free registration??

K Sherrie+Co Planning Atelierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10096838708768056493noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866532257733151112.post-56315188824438434642010-04-15T09:31:00.000-07:002010-04-15T09:52:40.594-07:00{Fireside Chats} Introducing The Stylish Planner
I have known Jeannine Kennedy from The Stylish Planner for little over a year now. My husband and I were married there at the Dungeness ruins almost 13 years ago. Cumberland is a barrier island protected against development by the National Park Service. In addition to the ruins, you can see Plum Orchard Plantation, undeveloped beaches, maritime forests, salt marshes and freshwater swamps. Wild horses roam free all over the island. It is incredibly beautiful, you feel as though you are in another country. And of course, all planners are familiar with the iconic wedding photo of John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Caroline Bissett- Kennedy at the First African Baptist Church, which is on the north end of the island.

What is the smartest piece of business advice you were ever given?
“Anything worth doing is worth doing well.” My Daddy used to say that and I think of it all the time in life and business.

What advice would you offer to new comers of the industry?
Don’t jump into a new business launch. Research as much as possible. Read as many books and blogs as you can and write a business plan. Make 2 sets of goals, your dream goals and your reasonably achievable goals – you’ll probably fall somewhere in the middle of the two. I researched and planned for almost a full year before opening my business.

What was the one class that helped you the most in your career?
Contract law.

What advice would you give to newlyweds for a happy marriage?
Strike a balance between individual and common interests. Nothing makes me appreciate my husband more than being away for a while, but nothing bonds us like doing things together that we both enjoy. If you spend every waking moment together what is there to talk about?

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?
God Blessed The Broken Road by Rascal Flatts – it really is our story put to music.

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?
I really like the emphasis of sustainable and heirloom items being used in weddings – I hope this trend is here to stay. I think we will continue to see smaller guest counts so that couples can have the reception that they want. Indie weddings are huge, so we will continue to see lots of personal touches from the bride and groom, resulting in lots of d-i-y projects. I also think there is an increased interest in outdoor weddings at unique venues.

Who in your life is your role model and why?
My husband is really amazing. He is patient, quiet, slow to anger, completely loyal, and incredibly intelligent – all wrapped up in this handsome, good old southern boy package. I often wish I were more like him.

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?
Book: Tara Guerard’s Southern Weddings – New Looks from the Old South. Magazine: Martha Stewart Weddings

What are your favorite color schemes?
I really like the unexpected combination of navy and pink (masculine + feminine) and classic black and white with a bold accent color such as fuchsia, lime green or canary yellow.

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they? That is a difficult question to answer! There are so many beautiful historic churches and chapels in Atlanta to choose from – I’m partial to The Shrine of The Immaculate Conception downtown due to its wonderful history. Callanwolde is a great location for both ceremony and reception. (Instead of an aisle, the bride processes down a beautiful, ornate staircase – it is wonderfully dramatic!) My favorite reception venue was the Academy of Medicine before Georgia Tech purchased it. Now I’d have to say either the Atlanta History Center or Biltmore Ballrooms – the staff at both these locations are wonderful to work with. I also have a special place in my heart for The Trolley Barn.

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.
A simple, tiered key lime cake with buttercream frosting.

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face at receptions?
I have mixed feelings about that. It can be fun, but the aftermath is such an ordeal. I usually ask my couples what they plan to do so I can have proper supplies stored right under the cake table if they are going to create a mess.

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?
The feeling of accomplishment I felt after the very first wedding I coordinated sealed the deal for me. I’ve never worked this hard in my life, but I’ve also never been this passionate about what I do.

What brings you the most joy in life?
My son’s laughter – especially one of his uncontrollable belly laughs. When I hear that, all is right with the world.

Thanks so much Jeannine for stopping by. My wedding was at 5pm, and the night went by far too quickly.

Where is your favorite place for a destination wedding?
Northern Michigan; The ski resorts, and coastal towns are so beautiful during the summertime (and winter if you want a snowy background!).

What is the smartest piece of business advice you were ever given?
Do what you love, and don't leave an open door unattended.

What advice would you offer to new comers of the industry?
Just remember that most couples have never planned anything like this, they're more likely to be nurses and accountants, not planners or designers. Knowing and remembering this helps me realize that educating each client and being patient is key. Even though we do this every day, it's all new to our clients, and they may need a lot of hand holding and education to keep them comforted.

What advice would you give to newlyweds for a happy marriage?
Laugh laugh laugh. Whenever you're mad or fighting, take a step back and look at what your upset about, then laugh about it because it's likely something silly and unimportant in the big picture.

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?
What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?
More ways to bring previously large-scale, permanent items to a small scale, reception setting (for example, the cotton candy machine & the photobooth trends)

Who in your life is your role model and why?
My parents have taught me how to be persistent, diligent & innovative as I grew up watching them grow each of their successful businesses. My husband's parents have taught us both how to always take time out for family and self relaxation, otherwise what you're working hard for might pass you by.

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?
Inc. and Fast Company; they're not wedding-related, but the editorial is fantastic for any business owner. Stationery Trends; I ran the design direction during the original creation of this magazine, so it will always be special to me.

What are your favorite color schemes?
lime green and teal; hot pink and; burgundy; lavender and; light blue, tiffany blue and orange

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they?
I love weddings that are at a private residence. Often the location is meaningful to the couple, and it's neat to share that on the wedding day.

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.
My husband and I love watching Ace of Cakes, I think a completely unique, sculpted cake is a fun way to go all out. If we were to do it again, we would have a rock-climbing cake.

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face at receptions?
Love it. My very tidy husband threatened me before our cake-cutting, so I still owe him some cake in the face.

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?
I became familiar with the stationery industry while working as Creative Director at Stationery Trends Magazine. I fell in love with that industry of small business people enjoying life's occasions, and with my design background, it all came together rather quickly.

What brings you the most joy in life?
Time with friends and family, Michigan summers, cooking/eating local foods and; rock climbing.

Thanks so much Abbey for stopping by.

Follow Abbey here on Twitter
Follow Eventology on Twitter
Follow Katasha on Twitter

Oh and your Eventology 2010 correspondent - Eliana on twitter

Eliana B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12926238347321169075noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866532257733151112.post-26548641917902235002010-04-13T18:34:00.000-07:002010-04-13T18:46:51.788-07:00{Fireside Chats} Introducing Lambert Letterpress
We have been working with Bill and Peggy Lambert from Lambert Letterpress on some amazing paper pieces for Eventology 2010. I think that couples make things harder for themselves.

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?
We aren't much of dancers but "Private Conversation" by Lyle Lovett reminds me of falling in love with my husband. I just got teary-eyed thinking about it.

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?
I am happy to say that couples are making their wedding more and more about who they are and what makes them happy. So if they love tacos, they are serving tacos. If they love mariachi bands that is who will play. It's a fabulous trend.

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?
Grace Ormonde's Wedding Style

What are your favorite color schemes?
I love anything with red; red and gold, red and black, red and orange. But my current favorite is red and Tiffany blue. It's fun but also has a vintage feel to it.

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they?Galleria Marchetti in Chicago will always be a favorite, it's a outdoor haven in the city with beautiful grounds, great food, & fabulous staff. I love venues that are unique, and this one fits the bill.

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.
The perfect cake would be from Bleeding Heart Bakery here in Chicago. They have a chocolate devil's food with raspberry fillingwith dark chocolate ganache that I dream about. Either that or their red velvet that has amazing cream cheese frosting.

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face atreceptions?
I am not a bit fan, I am not sure why or where the trend began but I wish it would stop. What does it even mean?

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?
I was in 2nd grade and there was a poster contest for Arbor Day. I won and it was one of the best days of my life. From that day forward I knew I wanted to be an artist. We donate to the National Arbor Association for every set of invitations we do, not only to helpreplenish the trees we used for the invitations but also to give back to what brought me to where I am today. It's a full circle.

What brings you the most joy in life?
Laughter, mainly of our daughters. It's priceless. I wish I could bottle it up to help me get through the teenage years that are quicklyapproaching.

Thanks so much Bill and Peggy for stoping by.

Follow Lambert Press here on Twitter
Follow Eventology on Twitter
Follow Katasha on Twitter

Oh and your Eventology 2010 correspondent - Eliana on twitterEliana B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12926238347321169075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866532257733151112.post-13520984996325455792010-04-12T19:01:00.000-07:002010-04-12T19:14:19.625-07:00{Fireside Chats} Introducing Envelopments
There is something to be said for amazing customer service. Learn from your successes and try to repeat them as often as possible.

What advice would you offer to new comers of the industry?
Think ahead and remember that each decision you make today has an effect on tomorrow. Surround yourself with people you trust and admire and would actually like to work with.

What was the one class that helped you the most in your career?
I've learned more from life and experience than anything else.

What advice would you give to newlyweds for a happy marriage?
It's difficult to offer advice on someone else's marriage, but I can tell you that mine has been a happy one. One of my best friends often says that my husband and I are still honeymooning, though we've been married for nearly twelve years. I'd say that's pretty close to the truth and we've always been happy together. We do everything together and our best times are when we're together. We call each other several times each day and at the end of a work day, we still can't wait to see each other. We've never had to work at being in love... we just are. Everything else sort of falls into place. I can only assume that it would be the same for another couple in love.

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?
Our first dance song was Sleep Walk by Santo & Johnny, from 1959. Our band had a fantastic guitarist who played it beautifully and we loved dancing to it. I know that it was an unusual choice, but we just couldn't see ourselves dancing to something cheesy and we didn't want our first dance to be the typical love song cliche.

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?
I think that weddings will continue to become more and more personalized. I think that events will have smaller guest lists, but will become a more detailed, thoughtful experience. I expect to see more and more wedding weekend celebrations, rather than just one-day events. I hope and expect that couples will continue to make their own traditions, rather than abiding by old ones.

Who in your life is your role model and why?
I have many role models, but the people who influence me most are those who are closest to me. My parents and sisters, my husband, my stepdaughter, my best friends. I think we learn from each person we love and that they are a role model for us in some way.

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?
Weddings Unveiled!

What are your favorite color schemes?
My favorite palettes change daily! It would be impossible to narrow it down to one or even a few.

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they?
There are too many to name! There are exquisite venues all over the world. I like everything from castles to farms.

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.
One that tastes as good as it looks.

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face at receptions?
It's a waste of perfectly good cake.

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?
How does anyone know what they want to do in life? When I was ten, I wanted to be a million different things because every idea sounded exciting. Now that I'm all grown up, I love being the Creative Director of Weddings Unveiled. When the opportunity presented itself, it was exciting. I knew immediately it was something I wanted to do.

What brings you the most joy in life?
So many things bring me joy.... My husband and stepdaughter, my huge and amazing family, my faith in God, my work and seeing each new issue of Weddings Unveiled on the newsstands, beach vacations, driving with the music turned up loud and the windows down, gardening on a breezy day.... Life is full of joy. I could go on and on.

Thanks so much Brooke for stoping by.

Follow Brooke here on Twitter
Follow Eventology on Twitter
Follow Katasha on Twitter

Oh and your Eventology 2010 correspondent - Eliana on twitterEliana B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12926238347321169075noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866532257733151112.post-28165026786330822622010-04-06T09:05:00.000-07:002010-04-06T09:14:04.045-07:00{Fireside Chats} Introducing Laura Hooper Caligraphy

Today we bring to you the infamous Laura Hooper. Take the right classes/workshops that pertain to your craft and ones that help with your business structure. Most importanly surround yourself with positive and truthful people.

What was the one class that helped you the most in your career?
I have to say as many graphic design and art classes I have taken the 2 workshops I have done the benefited me the most since i started my business was "The Simple Plan" and "The Business of Being Creative".

What advice would you give to newlyweds for a happy marriage?
Two things 1) Always be honest with each other no matter what the consequences. Your spouse will have more respect for you and the relationship after all is said and done. And 2) Never go to bed angry with each other. I have heard this so much from people and I see why now. Allowing yourself to go to bed angry only makes your heart and soul manifest on your anger and it gets worst and the situation only gets worse. Even if the situation is not fully dissolved at least come to some sort of understanding. Sleeping with hope is such a good feeling.

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?
My husband and I got married at Brooklyn City Hall and didn't have that opportunity. But we do plan on renewing our vows in a few years. We both agree that our first dance will be to "You" by Jessie Powell

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?
I've noticed more customization in weddings now. More of the bride and groom's personalities throughout their wedding, in every last detail. I think this trend is goignto be around for a very very long time and I'm loving it!

Who in your life is your role model and why?
My parents have so much to do with what I have become today. They both have been very supportive of me and my business. The one thing both have instilled in me is put God first and foremost in my life and everything else will follow.

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?
I have so many favorites but my top three are Atlanta Occasions, Martha Stewart Weddings and Southern Weddings

What are your favorite color schemes?
Purple, turquoise and gold.

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they?
I simply love out door weddings and receptions, especially close to the beach.

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.
I am such a Caribbean girl. I absolutely love a sweet heavy cake, yellow or fruitcake, with butter-cream frosting or good old fashioned icing.....yummy

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face at receptions?
Oh no!

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?
I had a revelation right after I moved to Georgia. I had a series of situations, people and things that kept popping up in my life all at once and all pointed me in this direction and it felt so right. Felt like a bell going off in my head constantly until I answered it. So I guess you can say it chose me not the other way around.

What brings you the most joy in life?
My family. The constant support, love and joy that they embrace me with is all that anyone can ask for.

Thanks so much Khadine for stoping by. Check out Khris's fireside chat below:

What is your favorite time of day for a wedding?
Though they’re a bit more challenging to coordinate, late-morning/early-afternoon weddings always delight me.

Where is your favorite place for a destination wedding?
The Cinque Terra / Liguran Coast of Italy.

What is the smartest piece of business advice you were ever given?
Know yourself well enough to trust your instinct and follow your own vision, even when others question it or don’t understand.

What advice would you offer to new comers of the industry?
Be true to who you are and what you stand for. Be kind to everyone. Gather around you the smartest, most ethical, and insanely talented circle of friends and colleagues that you can.

What was the one class that helped you the most in your career?
As an author and blogger, Creative Writing is the one class that laid a foundation for much of my success. It’s also served me well with business correspondence and marketing/sales/PR.

What advice would you give to newlyweds for a happy marriage?
1. Collaborate, don’t compromise. 2. Remind each other daily of why you love one another. 3. Communicate honestly and openly, without blame or judgment, during tough times (and in good ones, too).

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?
It was “Still In Love With You” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?
I wish I had a crystal ball to accurately predict what the next big thing will be! Personalization and intimacy are the two big buzzwords I’m seeing for the next year. Smaller weddings, uber-creative outdoor spaces, and non-themed décor will be popular.

Who in your life is your role model and why?
Anita Roddick (of the Body Shop) is a personal hero of mine for building a business with a conscious. Sir Richard Branson for being wildly outrageous and visionary. My parents for guiding me to being who I am today.

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?
Southern Weddings has rocked my world in the last year. I adore their fresh voice and style.

What are your favorite color schemes?
It changes so often! Currently, I adore white/cream with muslin or burlap and a pop of fuschia.

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they?
My two favorite venues are museum/galleries and boathouses by lakes.

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.
Sleek, modern lines with unexpected flavors.

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face at receptions?
I’m not a fan.

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?
I didn’t for a long, long time. The opportunity found me when I wasn’t looking and circumstances allowed me to try it out for a while without much consequence. Luckily, it was perfect fit!

What brings you the most joy in life?
My family. I have a 14-month old son who has totally redefined joy for me. I am humbled.

Thanks so much Khris for stoping by. I love all parts of the wedding day! But if I had to choose one it would be the first time someone says something like "Ok, go stand next to your husband/wife", the look on the brides/grooms face is priceless! Thats the moment I love to capture!

Where is your favorite place for a destination wedding?
Anywhere unique and non-touristy :) I love shooting destination weddings at remote, off the beaten track spots! There is something special about getting married where no one else has.

What is the smartest piece of business advice you were ever given?
Outsource, outsource, outsource. I hire a business intern every year to help me manage my studio and office so I have more time to focus on my clients!

What advice would you offer to new comers of the industry?
Take as many workshops as you can. Learn to do it the right way and don't be in a hurry to be successful, it will come.

What was the one class that helped you the most in your career?
Aside from photography? I would have to say Psychology...it helps me read my couples and get a feel for how they interact with each other in an everyday situation.

What advice would you give to newlyweds for a happy marriage?
Say something nice to each other everyday :)

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?
Somebody by Depche Mode

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?
I am starting to see bride and grooms take a unique approach to their weddings. They are putting a lot more thought into how they can make their wedding different than everyone else's. Its really refreshing to see all the unique ideas everyone is coming up with!

Who in your life is your role model and why?
I would say my parents are my role models. They always told me I could do what ever I wanted, and I thank them for that :)

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?
Hmmm, for photography it would have to be Rangefinder Magazine. I love the information they publish in that magazine!

What are your favorite color schemes?
Blue's, brown's, red's and orange's. I also love green, but sadly haven't been able to find a place for it in my business yet.

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they?
I love love love vineyard and bard weddings! I grew up on a farm and have a fondness for old rustic barns. I am also a wine lover and love the unique settings of vineyards. This is why my husband and I were married at a vineyard and had a barn reception :)

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.
I really like the small individual cakes at weddings.

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face at receptions?
I don't get why people do it.

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?
After trekking through Thailand for 3 weeks about 8 years ago I realized that photography is what I needed to be doing. Even though I have been taking pictures since I could hold a camera, it was that moment in my life that changed the way I saw things forever!

What brings you the most joy in life?
My husband, my family, my pets and my camera :)

Thanks so much Jen for stoping by. The lighting in the pictures is vibrant, and I love how much flexibility you can have with the menu selection with an early afternoon wedding.

Where is your favorite place for a destination wedding?

How can you go wrong with a destination wedding? The most beautiful destination wedding I've ever seen was a Paris wedding, with five guests total. The bride and groom in front of the Eiffel Tower? Swoon!

What is the smartest piece of business advice you were ever given?

Identify your strengths and play to those. Don't try to do too much, or you'll end up doing many things very poorly.

What advice would you offer to new comers of the industry?

Be genuine, and avoid the herd mentality. It's great that some people (ahem, Carrie Bradshaw) can wear a bird on their head to their wedding, but that doesn't mean it won't make everyone else look ridiculous.

What was the one class that helped you the most in your career?

Creative writing. I run the blog and all the social media for our company, and learning how to write with a consistent voice has been mission critical.

What advice would you give to newlyweds for a happy marriage?

Don't compare your marriage with anyone else's. Enjoy it for what it is, and what you're building it to be.

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?

My husband I got married in a church that didn't allow dancing, but if we'd had the chance we would have danced a fierce tango that would have left us breathless and the crowd on their feet!

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?

I've noticed that offbeat touches and dashes of personality thrown in at unexpected places have been showing up. I expect to see more of those!

Who in your life is your role model and why?

My father, who passed away from lymphoma last year. He was a brave, hilarious person and he lived his life very well.

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?

I love Southern Weddings magazine. We get a lot of inspiration for our designs from the weddings and styles we see featured there!

What are your favorite color schemes?

I love midnight blue and peony, as well as black, white, and yellow.

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they?

Outdoor weddings and receptions, especially with fairy lights and custom water bottles, are some of my very favorite.

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.

Buttercream frosting with virtually anything inside. Just so long as it isn't so decorated that it no longer looks edible!

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face at receptions?

It depends on the couple. If that's the kind of thing that comes naturally to them, then cool. If it's forced, then I think it's an unfortunate waste of cake.

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?

Truly my co-workers are as crucial to my job satisfaction as the job itself is. Sure, writing full time is amazing, but my co-workers constantly impress me with their ingenuity, creativity, and humor.

What brings you the most joy in life?

My husband. We've been married over four years and not a day goes by that I don't discover yet another thing about him that I'm endlessly grateful for.

Thanks so much for stopping by Erika! There is something so special about starting a new life together at the beginning of the day!

Where is your favorite place for a destination wedding?
I would love to have a destination wedding on the Island of Capri in Italy. The water & the sky is always a pretty blue. I think the romance of being in Italy would make for a magical wedding.

What is the smartest piece of business advice you were ever given?
Do what you love & love what you do and you will never work another day in your life. Always remember to ask yourself of the end of each day, what did I do to make a difference in someones life!

What advice would you offer to new comers of the industry?
I would still consider myself a newcomer in the wedding industry. However I would say be yourself and allow your personality to shine through everything that you do. Don't be afraid to reach out to people that are doing something that you love or admire.

What was the one class that helped you the most in your career?
I would have to say Sociology for sure. I pursued studies to be a teacher and my sociology class helped me to relate to people and to understand why they do what they do. I remember we had a class project called Simsoc - and we had a simulated community within this class. We all had to find ways to get along and build a cohesive community in regards to economic social classes, political parties, etc. {I loved it} As a wedding planner you have to be that person that can relate to all types of people while being a cheerleader but also being able to deliver crucial conversations all while keeping everyone cohesive.

What advice would you give to newlyweds for a happy marriage?
Keep the lines of communication open, keep things fun, continue to have date nights and romance is never a bad thing!

What was or would be your first dance song at your wedding?
I am not married yet, but I really love Jennifer Hudson's song Giving Myself, It has such beautiful lyrics.

What trends do you expect to see in weddings?
The trend that I am loving right now is truly making the wedding your own. Not a reflection of your parents or old traditions but starting new traditions for your family that will be passed down to your children.

Who in your life is your role model and why?
I would have to say Jesus because laid of foundation of how we should live our lives. My Granny Betty, she is such a strong prayerful woman that raised 12 children with my Granddaddy and taught us to trust God, love family & never start your day without saying "Thank you Lord for this beautiful day" no matter what it looked like outside. Also Phyllis Gatewood Washington, she was a college mentor from my days on the Hill at Western Kentucky University. She really took me under her wing and taught me about life, fashion, having fun with family and just staying true to yourself.

What is your favorite industry book or magazine?
Thats really no fair to pick only one....can I cheat! Industry book would have to be Style your Dream Wedding by Susie Coelho. Magazine: Inc. and Bride & Bloom

What are your favorite color schemes?
I am really love graphite grey & yellow and the classic black, white and red.

Do you have a favorite venue for weddings and receptions and if so what are they?
I love Scarritt Bennett Center on the campus of Vanderbilt University for weddings it has amazing architecture. Reception spaces would be the Hutton Hotel in downtown Nashville for its elegance, and The Cannery Ballroom for its exposed brick & urban atmosphere.

Describe the perfect wedding cake in your opinion.
Anything with red velvet and I am really loving cakes that are infused with flavors like rum, mango, vanilla rum.

How do you feel about the smashing of cake in the face at receptions?
Ummm NO!

How did you know this is what you wanted to do in life?
I have always had a love for fashion & unique designs as well as been super organized. I loved planning parties and events for friends. It wasn't until I made a major life & career decision that I took the step to start doing what I love.

What brings you the most joy in life?
My family, they are so supportive of anything that I do. Friends, I've some of the same friends since high school & college and we talk on a regular basis it really keeps you grounded.
